1.Install codecs for the iPhone to play your video?

When our computer software player cannot handle the video format, we can download the corresponding codec for it but can we do this on smartphones? It’ll be very cool to watch various videos on the smartphone, but I’m sorry to say this method doesn’t exist yet.

2.Use the multi-format supported player- VLC4iphone?

As previously introduced in this post, VLC player is the media software coving most formats with all codecs built in. Try Mobile Media Players

There are some mobile media players to let you play the video with format that is not officially certified for your phone, and Divx Mobile Player and TCPMP are two such media players for playing Xvid/Divx video.

1.TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player) is a free media player for embedded devices IE; PocketPC, Windows Mobile with codecs like mpeg4 video (XviD,DivX), mp3 (libmad), vorbis (Tremor) and supports for third party plugins (AAC). However, this free version is abandoned for years so it may not support the newer version of the codecs your videos have.

2.Divx Mobile Player supports Divx/ Xvid codec videos from version 4 onward, and it is beta software available for a limited time only and will expire.

Convert the Video Format

Convert to DVD Format to Burn to DVD

DVDs use MPEG2 which is a lossy codec and need a lot more bitrate than the source Divx/Xvid AVI video to keep equal quality to the source video. For same quality video, Divx/Xvid gives smaller file size than MPEG2.

Therefore, to maintain as good quality as possible, don’t shrink the converted video size. Try to put too many videos on a disc or make the files too small; you will make the disc not watchable. However, if a Divx 3 file is encoded with VBR(variable Bit Rate) audio, the audio will easily get gradually out of sync with the video when you re-encode it. Use VirtualDub

1.Load the file in VirtualDub that will tell you with a pop-up that the sound is VBR and will cause a skew (out of sync) in the playback.

2.Under the Audio tab, select “Full processing mode” without adding other options.

3.Under the Video tab, select “Compression–Xvid Codec”

4.Under File, select “Save as avi” and select the location to save the converted file.

Rip the DVD

1.First, download DVDx 2.2 by clicking here and install it.

2. Insert a DVD. Launch DVDx and click File>Open DVD root to select the hard drive location and load the VIDEO_TS folder of your DVD. This will open the following window. If you are ripping a movie, just select the longest title; if you are ripping a TV show or anything with multiple episodes, select the episode you want to convert.

3. After you select the title, the Input Settings window will pop up. You can leave most of the settings as default. Just choose the language of audio, and language for subtitles. Besides, the Audio/Video Synchronization option is recommended to select, for it can make the output video and audio sync better, though take a little longer. Click OK to save the settings.

4. Click Settings in the main menu bar and choose Output Settings. In the Output Settings you need to choose WMV and click “Apply”.

5. Click File>Select Output File to select the destination folder to store the ripped file and then press the red encode button on the bottom right to begin the ripping.

In the Youtube webpage offering the video you want to download, right click and choose “View Source” to get the html codecs of this page shown in a notepad. Now press Ctrl+f to get a window in which you type .mov or any file format you require. Then find the URl and download the video using download manager.

Using Firefox Add-on Unplug

You can use Unplug extension to download videos from Youtube if you are using Firefox browser. Unplug works with most sites offering Flash videos including Youtube and it’s easy to use:

First, Ensure you downloaded and installed the tool; then go to top Tool bar in the Youtube page where offers the video you want to download. Click Tools\UnPlug as below screenshot shows.
